INTRO: Introduction to Risk and Safety Management in Industry INTRO: 工业界的风险与安全管理
The course covers the main topics of industrial safety, starting with different aspects of risks and terminology used in the field. The main part of the course is dedicated to the related EU directives. The course outlines goals, scope and required measures / obligations considering acute (accidents) and chronic (pollution) risks. Special focus is given to major accident prevention and related process safety risk assessment methodology. As an option, the course covers the issues of risk perception and risk communication and tackles the method of stakeholder involvement in technical risk management.

PETRO: Risk Analysis in Chemical/Petroleum Industries PETRO:石油化工企业的风险分析
The petroleum industry is changing rapidly, challenging many organizations and individuals to keep pace and distinguish opportunity from risk.
This course will present current global and regional happenings in the upstream, midstream, downstream and in petrochemical industries. It will increase understanding of the industry's strengths and weaknesses and the risk issues.
In the end of the course the students will know:
  • what are risk aspects in petrochemical industries
  • methods for hazard identification applied in petrochemical industries
  • basics of probability and consequences analysis and risk assessment
  • what are the health, safety and environment issues related to petrochemical industries
POWER: Risk Analysis in Power Industries POWER: 电力企业的风险分析
The course provides knowledge on the risk analysis applied specifically in power industry, starting with advantages and effectiveness of its application. It presents the regulatory basis and requirements, and elaborate commonly used methods through the number of examples.
In the end of the course students will be able to
  • understand procedure for risk-based inspection and maintenance as defined for European industry by CEN CWA 15740:2008
  • present damage mechanisms specific for power industry
  • quote inspection techniques as used in power industry and their effectiveness
  • understand principles and conditions for life and risk assessment 
  • understand importance of quality assurance program in mitigation or reduction of risks in power industry
RBI-PETRO: Risk Based Inspection - Petro RBI-PETRO: 基于风险的检查 - 石化
The course elaborates risk issues in petrochemical industries and explains principles of Risk-Based Inspection (RBI), existing approaches and gives links to applied codes and standards. The focus is given to the standard of American Petroleum Institute API 580/581 and its application in petrochemical industry.
In the end of the course students will know the answers to the following questions:
  • Why RBI analysis is used and what are benefits and limitations of various RBI technologies?
  • What are differences between qualitative and quantitative approaches to RBI methods?
  • What is the scope of equipment covered in RBI techniques?
  • How RBI provides input to minimum requirements for programs that meet API RP 580?
  • What are future industry trends in RBI?

RBI-POWER: Risk Based Inspection - Power RBI-POWER: 基于风险的检查 - 电力
This course presents the state-of-the art knowledge of risk based approaches currently applied in power generating industries to the wide range of professionals involved in different activities in conventional power generation. It goes deeper in risk sources including specific damage mechanisms and elaborates methods and tools applied.

In the end of course students will know
  • what levels of risk assessment are
  • to model consequences on different level of risk assessment
  • to assess likelihood using statistical and API approach
  • most common damage mechanisms present in power plants
  • to select inspection and monitoring strategy aimed to reduce risks
  • to optimize inspection plan and use inspection results in the risk management process of a power plant.
RCM / RCFA: Reliability Centered Maintenance and Root Cause Failure Analysis RCM / RCFA: 以可靠性为中心的维护与根本原因失效分析
The course provide advanced knowledge on Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) and Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) as methodologies used for logical decision-making process for analysis and definition of the equipment maintenance requirements, as well as for accident prevention. The focus of the course is on the damage mechanisms appearing in different industries. A large number of well elaborated examples is included.
In the end of the course students will be able to answer the following questions:
  • What are different maintenance strategies?
  • Which strategy is to be applied in which case?
  • What is RCM and what are benefits?
  • What is RC(F)A and what are general analysis techniques?
  • What are types of damage and their specifics mechanisms?
  • What are general damage mechanisms, what are damage mechanisms specific for refining industry?
  • How reliable are NDT techniques and what are influencing factors.
HSE / HSSE: Health, Safety, Security and Environment HSE / HSSE: 健康、安全、保障和环境
The course gives an overview of EU regulation in the field of HSE and HSSE (health, safety, security and environment), explains the objectives and requirements, state-of-the art in application including constraint and advantages, and elaborates used techniques on a number of examples.

CoF: Accident and Consequences Modeling CoF: 意外事故及其后果建模
The course explains general techniques for accident modeling and explains different models of explosion. It elaborates gas and vapor explosion, as well as gas dispersion modeling, using examples for applied methods. The course includes modeling of fire and presents current models.

FIRE: Fire protection FIRE:消防
The aim of this course is to provide basic knowledge about fire protection in industry. It will start with theory of fire and extinguishment and explain sources of risk and fire protection installations. Through number of example fire protection measures in industry will be shown as well as legal background and requirements and applied safety concepts.

ExP: Explosion protection ExP: 防爆
EU directive ATEX which is presented in details, along with the principles of explosion prevention and protection adopted in this directive. Its practical application in the industrial plants is explained on a series of real life examples.


REACH: Risk analysis of chemicals REACH: 化学药品风险管理
The course presents principles of the EU regulation in the area of registration, evaluation and authorization of chemicals – REACH (EC Nr. 1907/2006). It explains principles and obligations for manufacturers, importers and downstream users to ensure that they manufacture, place on the market or use such substances that do not adversely affect human health or the environment.

ADR: Transport of dangerous materials ADR: 危险品运输
The course presents international and EU policies and legislative requirements related to the transport of dangerous materials and explain the European Agreement concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods. It will elaborate the main issues from ADR 2009 as well as safety measures and procedures in case of accidents.

OSHA: Occupational Safety and Health OSHA: 职业安全与健康
The course will present regulations in the field of safety and health of workers at work. It explains general principles concerning the prevention of occupational risks, the protection of safety and health, the elimination of risk and accident factors, the informing, consultation, balanced participation in accordance with national laws and/or practices and training of workers and their representatives, as well as general guidelines for the implementation of the said principles.

The EU member states are obliged to integrate these matters into their national regulations. Where appropriate this is exemplified with regulations from Germany.


BUSINESS: Business continuity risks & insurance BUSINESS:商业持续性风险与保险

The course is intended to complement the other courses devoted to technical and engineering issues of risk management in industrial plants (petrochemical plants, process industry, power plants, etc.).

Technical risks in the above plants can be a cause or a contributing factor in/for the business continuity and the final outcome of the technical/engineering activities is practically always to be seen on the background of business implications and implications/impacts to the business activities of a company.

The insurance aspects are the most relevant practical aspect linking the engineering and business side of the company operation and asset management: therefore these will be tackled, too.




LCA: Life Cycle Analysis and Assessment LCA: 生命周期分析与评估
The objective of this course is to give the participant the possibility to gain knowledge about Life Cycle Analysis and Assessment  (LCA) in 5 intensive course days.

The LCA course provides the student the skill to perform a simplified LCA study and to analyze, discuss and comment international scientific articles on LCA. Knowledge will be gained in LCA methodology and applications, the ISO series 14040 – 14044 and international developments.



EmRISK: Emerging Risks
The course introduces and transfers knowledge on emerging risks, and management of emerging risks. As "emerging" are considered primarily risks previously not recognized as risks, such as risks due to new processes, new technologies, new ways of working or social or organizational change (e.g. risks linked to nanotechnologies, bio-technology, new chemicals, outsourcing, globalization...). In addition the known risks emerging due to the change in public perception or new scientific knowledge are considered as well.
