SafeChina project:
Commencement ceremony, January 12, 2013

 
 

The SafeChina commencement ceremony and the company promotion event for 'Steinbeis Advanced Risk Technologies Beijing' took place on January 12, 2013, at BMILP in Beijing. So far, the project has already achieved most of its targets, see SafeChina in numbers for details.

The aim of the event was to award certificates to the Chinese professionals who have earned the titles of Risk Professional, Risk Examiners and Risk Assessors, as well as Chinese trainers for the Safe-China courses (certified in the train-the-trainer program). Also, main results of the project were presented including preparation for an independent German-Chinese joint venture ("Steinbeis Advanced Risk Technologies Beijing") which will continue project activities after the official DEG-project end, i.e. after February 2013.

On-the-job training - visit to the companies in Germany and Switzerland

The on-the-job training, five-days long, has included visits to the companies in Germany and Switzerland, accompanied by lecturing on different topics (major accident prevention policies, Risk Based Inspection and Reliability Center Maintenance implementation, risks in insurance, fire and explosion protection in chemical facilities, occupational health and safety...)

The participants of the training were

  • participants of SafeChina courses
  • participants SafeChina "Train the trainer scheme"
  • representatives of the Chinese companies, universities and institutions supporting the project. 
In the period April 22 - 30, 2012 the participants of this training had opportunity to visit: 

  1. BASF, in Ludwigshafen
  2. DEG - Deutsche Investitions- und Entwicklungsgesellschaft mbH in Köln
  3. GVG - Die Gesellschaft für Versicherungswissenschaft und -gestaltung e.V. in Köln
  4. DEKRA Akademie in Stuttgart
  5. Steinbeis University Berlin, including
    Steinbeis Transfer Institute Advanced Risk Technologies
    in Stuttgart
  6. EnBW Power plant Karlsruhe in Karlsruhe
  7. Swiss Institute for the Promotion of Safety and Security in Basel

Steinbeis Transfer Institute Advanced Risk Technologies took care of the study visit program (view the program of the visit) while Beijing Association for International Science and Technology Cooperation did travel arrangement in Germany.

 
 

Autumn/Winter round of SafeChina courses has started!

According to the SafeChina training plan, Autumn /Winter round of the courses started in October 2011 with following courses:

  • #4 RBI-PETRO: Risk Based Inspection - Petro, October 17 - 21, 2011
    The course covered risk issues in petrochemical industries and explains principles of Risk-Based Inspection (RBI), existing approaches and gives links to applied codes and standards. The focus was given to the standard of American Petroleum Institute API 580/581 and its application in petrochemical industry.
    48 participants attended the course and participate to the final exam for the Risk professional.

  • #5 RCM / RCFA: Reliability Centered Maintenance and Root Cause Failure Analysis, October 24 - 28, 2011
    The course presented the state-of-the art knowledge of risk based approaches currently applied in industries. It went deeper in risk sources including specific damage mechanisms and elaborates methods and tools applied.
    48 participants attended the course and participate to the final exam for the Risk professional.

SafeChina Training plan for the period July 2011 - May 2012

SafeChina continues with number of courses, on-the-job training in Germany, certification activities etc. The training plan includes
  • 10 different coursesas a minimum
  • 2 instances of the training courses for future SafeChina trainers
  • 2 instances of certification exams
  • on-the-job training in the German/EU companies for selected candidates.

According to this plan, two courses took place in July 2011:

  • July 18 - 22, 2011: Course #3 POWER, Risk Analysis in Power Industries 
    with 15 participants

  • July 25 - 29, 2011: Course #2 PETRO: Risk Analysis in Chemical/Petroleum Industries
    with 22 participants.
All course participants took part in the corresponding final exams collecting points for professional certification titles.
 

First training course done

SafeChina training started on March 14, 2011 with the course #1
INTRO - Introduction to risk and safety management in industry

The course was hosted by Beijing Municipal Institute of Labor Protection.

This course represents a general introduction to the topics of risks related to the general use of the chemicals by a modern society and related industrial sectors (chemical/process, oil & gas, power generation, heating, etc.).
31 participants have attended the course and showed the great interests for the main topics of the course (hazards, related risks, major accidents prevention, legislation in EU countries and obligations, related process safety risk assessment methodology...)

30 participants have passed the final exam on the last day of the course. In this way, these course participants have gained the title Risk Professionals.
The course was evaluated by the participants as successful in all elements - organization, training materials, lecturing, general impression. Some useful suggestions have been received as well which will be considered in preparation for the new round of training wchich will start in Jyly 2011.
